A beer definitely helps my iRacing skills. Over one beer... not so much. I actually think I'm getting better at racing, though Lime Rock is still a tough course for me. Some corners tighten a surprising amount, and the crest can take me out of a race. I need Dusty to call out instructions for me...

Beer does have this magic. I made a graph to post on ultimateguitar forums about live performance that somewhat works for games too :D

Kinja'd!!!

Yea, it defies mathematical laws too! (whoops)

I've found iRacing is the one game I can't drink AT ALL with and still be competitive... I suppose that's the true mark of a good sim game. I lose significant time with 1 beer (as much as a full second) and beyond that it's a shit-show.

That's pretty much how it works for me with guitar as well... that's an entirely accurate graph.

See, I'm not really even to the point where I can consistently run laps within one second anyway. I'm definitely not going to be winning time trials anytime soon. I think the beer smooths out my steering a bit. Call me crazy.

Actually, my darts game really takes a turn for the worse after a beer...

It's probably relaxing you, when I first started I was so tense and herky-jerky with the wheel that I can see how a little alcohol would actually improve a newer iracer's times. At the end of the day, do what works for you! Also, keep hammerin at those laps, I spent HOURS on Lime Rock and Laguna Seca when I first started, it paid off in dividends when I finally broke the learning curve. If you ever want some coaching, I'm certainly not the greatest but I'd be more then happy to give you some tips!

Yes, I wouldn't mind coaching at all. I'm embarrassed by my performance in most races. Right now, I just start in last and follow the pack around, so I don't get in anyone's way. Time trial is nice, because I can see my times go down naturally. Not by much, though, I think my best at Lime Rock is 1:02.8...

Are you still in Rookie class? Running Spec Miata? Two things, first, the setup on that Miata is locked... and it's total garbage for beginners (apparently the "pros" can do quite well with it but it's much too twitchy for most). Secondly, get out of rookie as fast as possible... do this by buffing you safety rating. I was able to get mine above the 4.0 instant class bump in about 4 races, I started from the back and ran extremely conservative races. Beyond that once you can get into the Solstice and other class D cars with more beginner friendly setups you'll find iRacing to be a MUCH more rewarding experience.

Shoot me an email at egoods(at)gmail(dot)com and I'll send you my real name so you can friend me and we can run some practice together.

Yep. I lost a few safety rating points the first month I played, I think I'm only at 2.6 now. But I'm running conservatively, so I'm gaining. The Miata does seem twitchy, and the tires don't seem that fantastic. Once it starts to slide, I have a real hard time wrangling it.

I'm semi-working at the moment but if you're familiar with Ventrilo (and have a mic) I can walk you through some stuff that'll help. Tip for getting your SR up in rookie races, start from the pits, then mosey along from there... my first win I started from the pits, drove past a bunch of wrecks and ended up winning.

Beers 2 through 4 are my sweet spot for darts. At 5 - 6 the game gets considerably slower. After that, danger .

Yeah, I had some last night. It's a solid IPA for sure. Not exceptional like some I've had recently, but good nonetheless.

Never had anything from Boulevard, but that Tank 7 surely is highly regarded on BA - score of 93! Dang!
